When compared to its competitors, such as the Lincoln Navigator, Mercedes-Benz GLS, and BMW X7, the Escalade offers a compelling value proposition. Exterior Design and Styling
The 2023 Cadillac Escalade commands attention with its bold, imposing exterior design. The latest refresh maintains the SUV’s signature upright profile and vertical lighting elements while introducing a new front fascia with a revised grille and slimmer headlights. These styling updates lend the Escalade an even more sophisticated and modern appearance.
With its massive footprint, the Escalade showcases a dominant road presence befitting its flagship status. Measuring over 211 inches in length and 81 inches wide, it casts an undeniably large shadow. The towering proportions are accentuated by the chiseled body lines, prominent shoulders, and stately vertical taillights. Even at a standstill, the Escalade exudes an aura of power and prestige.

Interior Design, Seating, and Cargo Capacity
The 2023 Cadillac Escalade’s interior is a masterclass in luxury and spaciousness. From the moment you step inside, you’re enveloped in a meticulously crafted cabin that exudes sophistication and attention to detail. The materials used are of the highest quality, with premium leather upholstery, genuine wood accents, and brushed metal trim that elevate the overall ambiance.
The fit and finish are impeccable, showcasing Cadillac’s commitment to craftsmanship. Every surface, seam, and control feels solid and substantial, contributing to the sense of opulence that permeates the cabin. The Escalade’s interior is a true sanctuary, insulating you from the outside world and providing a serene and comfortable environment for your journey.
Passenger space is abundant, with three rows of seating that can accommodate up to eight occupants with ease. Even in the third row, adults can enjoy ample legroom and headroom, ensuring that no one feels cramped or uncomfortable. The seats themselves are generously proportioned and offer exceptional support and comfort, thanks to their plush padding and available heating, ventilation, and massage functions.
Versatility is a hallmark of the Escalade’s interior design. The second and third rows can be folded flat, creating a cavernous cargo area that can swallow an impressive 121 cubic feet of cargo. Whether you’re transporting luggage, sports equipment, or bulky items, the Escalade’s interior can adapt to your needs with ease.
For those with serious hauling requirements, the Escalade boasts an impressive towing capacity of up to 8,200 pounds when properly equipped. Technology and Infotainment Features
The 2023 Cadillac Escalade offers a comprehensive suite of cutting-edge technology and infotainment features, solidifying its position as a true flagship luxury SUV. At the heart of the cabin is a curved 38-inch OLED display that seamlessly integrates three screens: a 16.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 14.2-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 7.2-inch control panel.
This immersive display provides a sleek and modern interface for accessing a wide range of functions, including navigation, media, vehicle settings, and more. The infotainment system is powered by Cadillac’s latest user experience platform, which offers intuitive navigation, natural voice recognition, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

The Escalade’s technology and infotainment offerings truly elevate the driving experience, combining cutting-edge innovation with intuitive functionality and uncompromising luxury.
Powertrain and Performance
The 2023 Cadillac Escalade offers a choice of two powerful V8 engines, both paired with a smooth-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission and standard four-wheel drive. The base engine is a 6.2-liter V8 producing 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, providing robust acceleration and towing capability. For even more performance, the Escalade is available with an exclusive 6.2-liter V8 with Dynamic Fuel Management and stop/start technology, generating an impressive 628 horsepower and 663 lb-ft of torque.
Fuel economy estimates for the base 6.2L V8 are 16 mpg city and 20 mpg highway, which is respectable for such a large, powerful luxury SUV. The higher-output V8 is expectedly thirstier, rated at 13 mpg city and 18 mpg highway. Both engines utilize cylinder deactivation and auto stop/start to help maximize efficiency.
In terms of acceleration and power delivery, the Escalade feels exceptionally strong off the line and when passing on the highway. The base V8 provides a 0-60 mph time of around 5.9 seconds, while the upgraded 628 hp version knocks that down to a stunningly quick 4.4 seconds. Power is always on tap, with a deep well of torque for effortless merging and overtaking.
Handling is surprisingly composed for a vehicle of this size and weight, with responsive steering and minimal body lean in corners. The independent rear suspension and available Air Ride adaptive damping help provide a planted, controlled feel through curves. Ride quality is excellent, with the Escalade soaking up bumps and road imperfections with ease while maintaining excellent straight-line stability. This luxury SUV strikes a nice balance between comfort and agility.
Key Competitors and Comparison
The 2023 Cadillac Escalade faces stiff competition from several other luxury full-size SUVs in the market. Here’s how it stacks up against some of its key rivals:
Lincoln Navigator: The Navigator is the Escalade’s closest competitor, offering a similar level of luxury and presence. While the Navigator’s base price is slightly lower than the Escalade’s, the top-trim Black Label model can rival the Escalade’s pricing. Both SUVs offer potent V8 engines, but the Escalade’s available 6.2L V8 has a slight power advantage. The Escalade also edges out the Navigator in terms of overall interior quality and technology features.
Mercedes-Benz GLS: The GLS is a more expensive option than the Escalade, with prices starting around $80,000 and climbing well over $150,000 for the top AMG trims. While the GLS boasts a more refined driving experience and a prestigious badge, it falls behind the Escalade in terms of overall interior space and cargo capacity. The Escalade’s available 6.2L V8 also outmuscles the GLS’s twin-turbo V8 engine options.
BMW X7: Like the GLS, the X7 is a more expensive option than the Escalade, with a starting price around $80,000 and top trims pushing past $150,000. The X7 delivers a more engaging driving experience and handling, but it can’t match the Escalade’s interior spaciousness or cargo capacity. The Escalade’s available 6.2L V8 also outguns the X7’s twin-turbo V8 engine options in terms of raw power.
Lexus LX 600: The all-new LX 600 is a formidable off-road-capable luxury SUV, but it’s priced higher than the Escalade, starting around $90,000. While the LX 600 boasts impressive off-road capabilities and a reputation for reliability, it falls short of the Escalade in terms of overall interior space, technology features, and on-road performance. The Escalade’s available 6.2L V8 also outmuscles the LX 600’s twin-turbo V6 engine.
Ownership Experience
The 2023 Cadillac Escalade offers a comprehensive warranty package to provide peace of mind for new owners. The basic warranty covers the entire vehicle for 4 years or 80,000 km, whichever comes first. The powertrain is covered for 6 years or 110,000 km. Cadillac also includes complimentary scheduled maintenance for the first visit within the first year of ownership.
In terms of expected reliability, the Escalade has a solid track record, though not necessarily class-leading. J.D. Power’s 2022 Vehicle Dependability Study rated the Escalade slightly above average for the segment. Owner satisfaction scores from outlets like Consumer Reports tend to be decent but middle-of-the-pack. Proper maintenance will be key to ensuring long-term reliability.
When it comes time to sell, the Escalade is expected to retain above-average resale values compared to other full-size luxury SUVs. Cadillac’s brand cachet, the Escalade’s strong demand, and relatively low sales volume all contribute to its ability to hold value well on the used market. Estimated 5-year residual values are projected around 45-50% of MSRP for higher trims like the Premium Luxury and Sport Platinum models.
Verdict and Recommendations
The 2023 Cadillac Escalade is a compelling choice for those seeking a full-size luxury SUV with undeniable road presence, immense interior space, and the latest tech features. Its bold styling, powerful engine options, and well-appointed cabin make it a desirable pick in the premium SUV segment.
Among its strengths, the Escalade impresses with its massive cargo capacity, versatile seating configurations, and segment-leading infotainment system with a curved OLED display. The available Super Cruise hands-free driving assist also sets it apart from rivals. Performance from the 6.2L V8 engine is robust, delivering ample power for towing and confident acceleration.
However, the Escalade’s weaknesses include a firm, truck-like ride quality, subpar fuel economy compared to rivals, and a premium pricing structure that can quickly escalate with options. The interior, while luxurious, may not feel as opulent as some European competitors in the highest trim levels.
For families seeking maximum passenger and cargo space with a bold American luxury presence, the Premium Luxury trim strikes an ideal balance of features and value. Those prioritizing performance and tech should consider the Sport or range-topping Platinum trims. The V-Series model caters to driving enthusiasts craving even more power.
Ultimately, the 2023 Cadillac Escalade delivers on its promise of an unapologetically large, well-equipped, and capable luxury SUV. While it may not be the most fuel-efficient or refined option, its blend of style, space, and cutting-edge features make it a compelling choice for those willing to pay a premium for the iconic Escalade name and presence.

The new Escalade V-Series introduces a hand-built 6.2L supercharged V8 putting out 682 horsepower and 653 lb-ft of torque – the most power ever offered in an Escalade. This takes performance to a much higher level.
All engines use a 10-speed automatic transmission and rear or four-wheel-drive. There are no 4-cylinder or diesel options currently available on the Escalade.
